EJ Haust, official guest host of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show and self-described political refugee from Minnesota, identified five Minnesota entities she believes failed or were complicit in allowing fraud to persist in the state: the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor, and Minnesota Management and Budget.
She argued that each of these agencies has a formal responsibility to detect fraud and yet failed to do so, despite the scale of the alleged misconduct.
“These are all state agencies that are responsible – it literally says in their description – for identifying fraud risks in state agencies and programs,” Haust stressed.
“Someone has to be complicit in these agencies in order to make that happen,” she added.

Haust accused state officials of complicity in what she describes as a massive public funds scandal, alleging that years of widespread fraud across multiple state and federally funded programs could not have occurred without willful neglect or assistance from key Minnesota agencies under Governor Tim Walz’s administration.
Minnesota is facing renewed scrutiny as federal authorities – including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – under the Trump administration have taken action amid allegations of widespread fraud involving state and federally funded programs.
In recent days, YouTuber and independent journalist Nick Shirley has gone viral for his videos investigating the alleged large-scale misuse of public funds by Somali-run daycare centers in Minneapolis.
Haust, who has on multiple occasions detailed the widespread, years-long fraud involving state- and federally funded programs under the Walz administration, stressed during Tuesday’s show that the alleged misconduct extends far beyond daycare centers.
“The fraud is so much more than daycare centers. It’s healthcare centers, it’s autism centers, it’s restaurants and bodega-type stores. It’s all over the place. We have to take it to the next level now,” she said.
Haust theorized the alleged fraud could not have occurred without help or willful neglect from state officials, insisting that many of the individuals accused of committing fraud would not have been capable of orchestrating complex funding schemes on their own.
“I promise you these people didn’t do it all by themselves. This wasn’t done by accident or in a vacuum as if they figured it all out on their own. A good many of them barely speak English. Somebody helped them,” she said.
